Renewed in the Image of Our Creator

A Devotional for October 8, 2026

“And have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” — Colossians 3:10

Coming to Christ marks the beginning of a new life, yet growing into that life is an ongoing work of grace. Paul describes believers as having already put on the new self while still being renewed. These truths belong together: we belong to Christ now, and God continues to shape our thoughts, desires, and actions to reflect Him.

This renewal reaches deeper than outward behavior. God works within us, teaching us to recognize what is true, love what is good, and turn away from what distorts His image in our lives. Knowing Him involves more than gathering information about Scripture. As His Word takes root in our hearts, it changes how we respond to disappointment, how we speak to others, and how we handle temptation.

The image of our Creator becomes visible in ordinary acts of faithfulness. An honest answer replaces a convenient lie. Patience interrupts an angry response. Compassion moves us toward someone we might otherwise overlook. These choices do not earn our place in God’s family; they express the new life He has given us through Christ.

Growth can feel slow, especially when familiar weaknesses surface again. Yet the words “being renewed” offer encouragement. God’s transforming work is ongoing. Recognizing sin can become an invitation to repentance and deeper dependence on His grace.

Today, make room for that renewing work. Read Scripture with a willing heart. Bring stubborn attitudes before God in prayer. Take the next step of obedience He makes clear. The One who created you is faithfully teaching you to live in the likeness of Christ.
