Keep Coming to the Father
A Devotional for October 7, 2026
Jesus invites us to approach God with three simple words: ask, seek, and knock. Each expresses a faith that reaches toward Him. We ask because we have needs we cannot meet ourselves. We seek because we need His wisdom and presence. We knock because we trust that the One who hears us is good.
This invitation brings comfort when prayer feels difficult. We do not need polished sentences or unwavering emotions to come before God. A whispered plea, an honest question, or a weary cry can become an expression of trust. Jesus welcomes us to bring our needs to the Father rather than hide them behind an appearance of strength.
His promise does not mean that every request will be answered exactly as we imagine. In the verses that follow, Jesus speaks of the Father’s goodness toward His children. That goodness shapes His answers. He knows what will nourish our faith, what might harm us, and what we cannot yet understand. We can place both our requests and our expectations in His care.
Asking, seeking, and knocking also invite us to persevere. Waiting can test our confidence, especially when circumstances remain unchanged. Yet an unanswered question is still something we can bring to God. We can keep seeking His direction through Scripture and keep taking the next faithful step while we wait.
Today, bring the Father the concern that keeps returning to your mind. Ask honestly. Seek Him attentively. Knock with hope. Your confidence rests in the character of the One who has invited you to come.
Heavenly Father, teach us to pray with honesty and persistence. When answers seem delayed, steady our hearts in Your goodness. Help us seek Your will and receive Your provision with trust. Through Jesus Christ, amen.
