A Devotional for October 2, 2026
“O God, You are my God.” Psalm 63:1 begins with a declaration of belonging. Before David describes his thirst or the barrenness around him, he acknowledges the One in whom he trusts. His circumstances are difficult, but God is still his God.
There are seasons when life feels like a dry and weary land. Responsibilities drain our strength, unanswered questions trouble our minds, and even prayer can feel difficult. This psalm gives us words for those moments. We do not have to hide our weariness or pretend that our souls are satisfied. We can bring our thirst honestly to God.
David’s longing also invites us to consider what we seek most deeply. Relief from hardship is a natural desire, but his prayer reaches beyond changed circumstances: “My soul thirsts for You.” He longs for God Himself. The gifts of God are precious, yet none can take the place of knowing the Giver.
Earnestly seeking God can begin with a simple, sincere prayer. Open His Word when distractions call for your attention. Pause in the middle of a demanding day to acknowledge His presence. Bring Him the worry you keep carrying alone. These small acts of faith turn the heart toward the One who sustains it.
The wilderness does not mean that God has abandoned you. You can belong to Him and still feel thirsty. Let that thirst draw you into His presence today. Even before your circumstances change, you can pray with confidence, “O God, You are my God.”
Father, awaken in us a deeper desire for You. Meet us in our weariness, teach us to seek Your presence, and sustain us with Your faithful love. Amen.
