Worthy Are You, Our Lord and God

A Morning Prayer Inspired by Revelation 4:11

Lord our God, as the morning light rises and a new day begins, we come before You with hearts turned toward heaven. Before we consider the responsibilities waiting for us, before we think about the work that must be done, the places we must go, the people we must meet, or the difficulties we may face, we choose to begin with You. We lift our hearts in worship and join the song of heaven: “Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things; by Your will they exist and were created.”

You are worthy, O Lord.

You are worthy before we accomplish anything today. You are worthy whether this day unfolds according to our expectations or surprises us with circumstances we could never have anticipated. You are worthy in seasons of abundance and in seasons of need. You are worthy when our hearts are filled with joy, and You remain worthy when sorrow weighs heavily upon us. Your worthiness does not depend upon our circumstances, our emotions, our success, or our understanding. You are worthy because You are God.

This morning, draw our attention away from ourselves and toward Your throne. So much of life encourages us to place ourselves at the center. We are tempted to measure everything according to our comfort, our desires, our plans, and our ambitions. Yet Revelation gives us another vision: heaven gathered around Your throne, worshiping the One from whom all creation receives its existence.

Teach us to live today with that heavenly vision shaping our earthly lives.

You are our Lord and our God.

We confess that these words are more than titles spoken during worship. To call You Lord is to acknowledge that our lives belong to You. To call You God is to recognize that You alone deserve the highest allegiance of our hearts. We are not our own creators, our own saviors, or the ultimate masters of our destiny. We are creatures who live because You have given us life.

Therefore, Lord, we surrender this day to You.

Our time belongs to You.

Our abilities belong to You.

Our possessions belong to You.

Our relationships belong to You.

Our opportunities belong to You.

Our bodies belong to You.

Our minds belong to You.

Our voices belong to You.

Our future belongs to You.

Everything we have has first come from Your gracious hand. Teach us to receive every blessing with gratitude and to use every gift for Your glory.

You created all things.

Before there were mountains rising toward the heavens, You were God. Before rivers flowed toward the seas, You were God. Before stars filled the darkness, before birds filled the skies with song, before humanity drew its first breath, You were God.

You spoke, and creation came into being.

The universe is not self-created. Life is not an accident without meaning. Creation bears witness to Your wisdom, Your power, Your generosity, and Your beauty. Every sunrise is possible because You created light. Every breath is possible because You designed life. Every heartbeat continues because existence itself is sustained by Your will.

Help us to see creation today not merely as something surrounding us, but as something declaring Your glory.

When we see the morning sky, remind us of You.

When we hear the wind moving through the trees, remind us of You.

When we hear birds singing, remind us of You.

When we encounter another human being, remind us that we are standing before someone created in Your image and worthy of dignity, patience, compassion, and love.

May ordinary things become invitations to worship.

Father, forgive us for the many times we receive Your gifts while forgetting the Giver. We enjoy creation while neglecting the Creator. We receive food without gratitude, shelter without thanksgiving, friendships without recognizing Your providence, and another morning without remembering that life itself is Your gift.

Awaken gratitude within us today.

Do not allow familiarity to rob us of wonder.

We have awakened to another day because You have permitted us to awaken. We breathe because You have given breath. We think because You have given minds capable of thought. We love because You have created us for relationship. We hope because You have planted eternity within the human heart.

Thank You for life.

Thank You for this morning.

Thank You for mercies that have carried us through the night.

Thank You for grace that meets us before we have done anything to deserve it.

Thank You that our relationship with You does not rest upon our ability to make ourselves worthy. You alone are worthy, and yet in Your astonishing mercy You welcome us into Your presence.

We praise You especially for Jesus Christ, through whom creation and redemption reveal the depth of Your love. The One through whom all things were made entered the world He created. The eternal Word took upon Himself our humanity. Christ walked among His creatures, touched the suffering, welcomed the rejected, forgave sinners, proclaimed Your kingdom, carried our sin to the cross, and rose victorious over death.

Because of Christ, we approach Your throne not with terror but with confidence.

Because of Christ, sinners may become children of God.

Because of Christ, condemnation does not have the final word.

Because of Christ, death does not have the final word.

Because of Christ, our failures do not have the final word.

Grace has spoken.

Mercy has triumphed.

Christ is risen.

And so this morning we worship You not only as Creator but also as Redeemer.

Lord Jesus, reign over this day.

Rule our thoughts before anxiety does.

Rule our words before irritation does.

Rule our desires before temptation does.

Rule our reactions before anger does.

Rule our decisions before selfish ambition does.

Rule our schedules before busyness convinces us that productivity is more important than faithfulness.

Let Your lordship reach into every ordinary corner of our lives.

When we speak with family members, may Christ be Lord.

When we enter workplaces, classrooms, homes, churches, hospitals, stores, offices, workshops, or roads crowded with morning traffic, may Christ be Lord.

When no one is watching, may Christ be Lord.

When decisions seem insignificant, may Christ be Lord.

When pressure rises, may Christ be Lord.

When temptation comes, may Christ be Lord.

When unexpected opportunities appear to serve someone, may Christ be Lord.

Teach us that worship is not confined to songs or sanctuaries. Worship is a life offered to You. Worship is truth spoken when deception would be easier. Worship is forgiveness offered when resentment feels justified. Worship is generosity when selfishness whispers that we should keep everything for ourselves. Worship is patience with difficult people. Worship is compassion toward the suffering. Worship is obedience when Your way costs us something.

Make our lives worship today.

You are worthy to receive glory.

Therefore, keep us from living for our own glory.

The human heart so easily desires recognition. We want to be noticed, appreciated, praised, and remembered. Even acts of service can quietly become attempts to gain approval. Deliver us from the exhausting need to prove our importance.

May our deepest desire be that You are glorified.

If our work succeeds today, may You receive the glory.

If someone praises us, keep us humble.

If someone overlooks us, keep us faithful.

If our contribution remains unseen, remind us that You see.

If another person receives recognition, teach us to rejoice rather than envy.

May we become less concerned with building our reputation and more concerned with reflecting Your character.

You are worthy to receive honor.

Teach us to honor You not merely with our lips but with our choices.

May our conduct reveal that You matter to us.

May the way we treat people honor You.

May the way we handle money honor You.

May the way we speak about others honor You.

May the things we watch, read, share, and pursue honor You.

May our private thoughts honor You.

May our public actions honor You.

May our use of time honor You.

May our treatment of those who cannot benefit us honor You.

Make integrity the quiet worship of our lives.

You are worthy to receive power.

All true power belongs ultimately to You.

Human strength fades. Governments rise and fall. Wealth appears and disappears. Bodies grow tired. Plans fail. Institutions change. Generations pass away. Yet Your throne remains.

When the world feels unstable, remind us that heaven is not anxious.

Your throne is not threatened.

Your kingdom is not fragile.

Your purposes are not hanging by a thread.

You are God.

Give us peace in that truth.

For those beginning this morning carrying heavy burdens, be their strength.

For those facing difficult medical news, surround them with mercy.

For those grieving someone they love, hold them close.

For those struggling financially, provide daily bread and wise help.

For those facing conflict in their families, bring humility, patience, reconciliation, and truth.

For those battling loneliness, remind them that they are seen.

For those who feel forgotten, let Your presence become unmistakably near.

For those beginning another day of caring for someone who depends upon them, renew their strength.

For those whose work is exhausting, give endurance.

For those who are searching for work, open appropriate doors and sustain their hope.

For those facing decisions they do not know how to make, give wisdom.

For those carrying secret temptations, provide a way of escape.

For those who have fallen into sin, lead them into honest repentance and restore them through Your grace.

For those whose faith feels weak this morning, remind them that the strength of faith rests not in the strength of the believer but in the faithfulness of the God who is believed.

Holy Spirit, fill us today.

Produce within us what we cannot manufacture through determination alone.

Give us love where bitterness would naturally grow.

Give us joy that circumstances cannot easily steal.

Give us peace when uncertainty surrounds us.

Give us patience when people test us.

Give us kindness in a culture that often rewards harshness.

Give us goodness when compromise seems convenient.

Give us faithfulness when obedience becomes difficult.

Give us gentleness when anger feels powerful.

Give us self-control when desire demands immediate satisfaction.

Shape us into people whose lives bear witness to the character of Christ.

And when we fail today, keep us from hiding from You.

Lead us quickly back to grace.

May repentance become a doorway rather than something we fear. Give us courage to confess what is wrong, humility to seek forgiveness, and faith to believe that the blood of Christ is sufficient.

Father, help us remember throughout this day that everything exists by Your will.

This truth frees us from the illusion that everything depends upon us.

We have responsibilities, but we are not sovereign.

We have decisions to make, but we do not control every outcome.

We can work faithfully without pretending that we hold the universe together.

You sustain creation.

You sustain Your church.

You sustain Your people.

You sustain us.

When anxiety tells us that everything will collapse unless we control every detail, remind us that creation existed before us and will continue according to Your providence after us.

Teach us faithful dependence.

Give us wisdom to do what You have placed before us and faith to entrust everything beyond our control into Your hands.

Let this day become an offering.

Take our conversations and use them for encouragement.

Take our hands and use them for service.

Take our minds and use them for truth.

Take our resources and use them for generosity.

Take our experiences and use them to comfort others.

Take our wounds and redeem them for compassion.

Take our mistakes and transform them into humility.

Take our successes and turn them into praise.

Take our ordinary moments and fill them with holy purpose.

May someone encounter kindness today because we belong to You.

May someone receive encouragement because we listened to Your Spirit.

May someone experience mercy because we remembered how much mercy we have received.

May someone feel less alone because we chose to notice them.

May someone see something of Jesus in the way we live.

And when evening comes, may we be able to look back upon this day not with pride in ourselves, but with gratitude for Your faithfulness.

You were with us in the morning.

You walked with us through the afternoon.

You carried us through difficulties.

You gave strength for responsibilities.

You provided grace for failures.

You placed blessings along our path that we might easily have overlooked.

And You remained worthy through every moment.

Lord our God, we begin this day before Your throne.

We lay down our crowns—whatever achievements, identities, possessions, titles, accomplishments, or ambitions we might be tempted to treasure more than You.

Nothing compares with Your glory.

Nothing equals Your majesty.

Nothing surpasses Your goodness.

Nothing exists apart from Your creative will.

You are the beginning and the end, the source and goal of all creation. Every breath ultimately belongs to You, every moment unfolds beneath Your sovereign care, and all creation moves toward the fulfillment of Your eternal purpose.

So let our first declaration this morning become the foundation beneath everything we do today:

Worthy are You, our Lord and God.

Worthy of our worship.

Worthy of our obedience.

Worthy of our trust.

Worthy of our gratitude.

Worthy of our surrender.

Worthy of our love.

Worthy of glory.

Worthy of honor.

Worthy of power.

You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.

May our lives today join the worship of heaven.

May every faithful act become praise.

May every loving word become praise.

May every quiet sacrifice become praise.

May every moment of obedience become praise.

May every breath become praise.

And may everything we are, everything we have, and everything we do declare the eternal truth that echoes around Your throne:

You alone are worthy.

We give this morning to You.

We give this day to You.

We give ourselves to You.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever worthy of glory, honor, and praise.
