The God Who Does Immeasurably More

A Devotional on Ephesians 3:20-21

"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen." — Ephesians 3:20–21

There are moments when our prayers seem too small for the burdens we carry. We ask for enough strength to make it through today, enough wisdom for one decision, enough peace for one difficult season. Yet Paul ends his great prayer in Ephesians by lifting our eyes far beyond our limited expectations. He reminds us that God is not merely able to meet our requests—He is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or even imagine.

This promise does not encourage us to dream of earthly success according to our own desires. Rather, it points us to the limitless power of God to accomplish His perfect will for His people. His wisdom reaches farther than our understanding, His grace extends deeper than our failures, and His purposes are greater than our plans. Even when we cannot see what He is doing, He is working with perfect faithfulness.

Notice that this power is "at work within us." The same God who reigns over the universe is actively transforming the hearts of those who belong to Christ. He strengthens weak faith, produces enduring hope, shapes Christlike character, and enables His people to persevere through every trial. His greatest work is not simply changing our circumstances but changing us.

The passage ends where every Christian life should end—with glory to God. Every answered prayer, every act of grace, every victory over sin, and every evidence of His faithfulness exists for one purpose: that Christ would be glorified in His church throughout every generation. Our lives become testimonies to the greatness of the God whose power knows no limits.

When your prayers feel small and your strength feels exhausted, remember that your confidence rests not in the size of your faith but in the greatness of your God. He is able. He is working. And He will accomplish His good purposes for His glory and for your eternal good.

Heavenly Father, thank You for being the God who is able to do immeasurably more than I could ever ask or imagine. Help me to trust Your wisdom when I cannot see the way ahead and to rely on Your power instead of my own strength. Continue Your transforming work within me so that my life brings glory to Jesus Christ. May Your name be honored in Your church and throughout every generation. Amen.
